Friday Free-for-All: Phil Hartman

This probably won't be the first post I do in salute of the great Phil Hartman. After the last season, it seems like SNL has completely forgotten how to skewer a President in a funny way. Fred Armisan's Obama just stops the show dead almost every time he shows up. Every week, I find myself wondering when we'll get a cast member who's able to find the hilarious comic takes that Phil Hartman brought to his work

Here's Hartman as mastermind Ronald Reagan:

And here he is as Bill Clinton, jogging into McDonalds:

  1. Insert the obvious: SNL has completely forgotten how to do anything in a funny way.

And yes, I just want to punch Armisen in the face.

And yes, Hartman was fantastic. Hard to believe how long it's been since that tragedy happened.

  2. This is a great topic. On Hulu, they have (I think) all full episodes of NewsRadio posted. I've been watching them in order. Phil Hartman was a mofo genius. Here is one of my favorite eps, only the 3rd one and they're already hitting their stride.

I don't know if I can find it, but I also love when he did Frank Sinatra on SNL. Oh, here it is:

    Phil Hartman does Frank
